Superman ride goes virtual reality at Six Flags America

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

Six Flags America soon will open a Superman-themed, virtual reality roller coaster — a traditional coaster on which riders wear wireless headsets.

The ride opens June 11 to the general public but opens on June 9 to guests purchasing a special T-shirt and on June 10 to season pass holders of the Upper Marlboro theme park.

Six Flags said it partnered with technology companies Samsung Gear VR and Oculus on the ride, which is being offered at several other of its parks.

The headsets “provide high-resolution imagery with an extra-wide point of view to seamlessly merge reality with the virtual world,” Six Flags said.

Also new this season at Six Flags America is Splashwater Falls, an interactive water playground with a giant tipping bucket.
