News update: Six Flags building two more Justice League rides

July 18, 2016, 7:16 PM · Reader Kenny Cook passes along copies of public documents from Atlanta and New Jersey that show Six Flags has filed permits to build Justice League Battle for Metropolis rides to open next year at Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Great Adventure, respectively. Six Flags first opened the Theme Park Insider Award-winning ride at its Texas and St. Louis parks in 2015, followed by Mexico and Chicago this year. If the chain keeps with two installations a year, that means our local Six Flags park, Magic Mountain (the chain's most attended park), won't be up for getting Justice League until 2018 at the earliest. (Sigh....) But it's good news for dark ride fans in Georgia and New Jersey!

The Kennedy Space Center, located about an hour east of the Orlando theme parks in Cape Canaveral, is building a new attraction for its visitors center. Heroes and Legends will open this November and tell the stories of America's astronauts. (Falcon's Treehouse is leading the design of the project.) The attraction also will be the home of the new U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. The KSC recently announced that the attraction will be getting the center's first corporate sponsor, The Boeing Company. Corporate attraction sponsors are nothing new in the theme park industry, but it's something different for government-affiliated facilities. While the space center itself is under government control, the KSC Visitor Center is operated by Delaware North, a global hospitality management company. In addition to the hall of fame, the new attraction will include a 3D theater, augmented reality, and simulated holograms.

Finally, Walt Disney World's confirmed another restaurant signing on to open in Disney Springs. The Polite Pig will be a sister restaurant to Winter Park's The Ravenous Pig, serving smoked and grilled meats. The restaurant is scheduled to open next spring.

July 19, 2016 at 10:20 AM · Thank you so much Robert for actually reading my email with the documents. I can't believe that SFMM isn't getting one, but I will check and see if they've filed anything.
July 19, 2016 at 3:03 PM · Regarding Justice League, it wouldn't surprise me if Six Flags is installing three copies of the attraction next year to coincide with the release of the movie. Something worth noting is that, as far as I've heard, the original contract was for 7 installations of the attraction, so if SFMM doesn't get one in 2017 I'd say it is nearly guaranteed they'll get it in 2018.

Also, Rob, SFOT has two dark rides: Justice League and Yosemite Sam's Gold River Adventure. SFGAdv could be argued as having two dark rides depending on whether you count Houdini's Great Escape or not (for the record, I don't, but I have friends that do).

July 19, 2016 at 8:52 PM · I am really happy about this news and I strongly feel that this is a great addition to my home park. Even though I have been to Universal and Disney Orlando parks, I run into alot of visitors at SFOG who have never experienced the awesomeness of Spider Man, Transformers or even other parks outside of GA and AL for that matter. Even though I feel JL will be a notch or two below those dark rides, it will make a big impression and be appreciated at SFOG.
July 19, 2016 at 9:30 PM · SFOG is getting a Justice League ride, but there is no mention of "Battle for Metrpopolis" anywhere. Given that SFOG is turning 50 and has not gotten a new coaster since 2011, it would not surprise me to see SFOG get a Justice League themed coaster, which would also fit the space opened up (nearly 2 acres).

As great as the JL/BFM ride is, I simply cannot see SFOG getting a third generation off the shelf family ride as their 50th anniversary addition, considering the past 3 years have been family additions and no extreme thrills.

July 19, 2016 at 10:40 PM · Hi there Stephen,
I was the actual person who found the documents and it even said on there "Justice League Dark Ride". It did however say that the area being used by this attraction is 1.6 acres, I believe that they have more space available than that, so maybe a coaster as well?
July 20, 2016 at 11:00 PM · Kenny that would be great to get a double feature at SFoG. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the Justice League ride at the Texas park and I hope our GA park gets one but I just cannot see that as a lone new addition for a 50th Anniversary, considering its now an off-the-shelf model and nowhere near unique. But - a JL/BFM ride + a coaster...now that would be appropriate for a half-century celebration!

Nonetheless, SF parks are wise to maximize its use of the "Justice League" IP, given that a JL movie is coming to theaters late in 2017. With all the DC comics movies in the works, its no wonder Six Flags is using that theme heavily lately.
